Hershey Public Schools is thrilled to announce that two of our very own 4th-grade students, Boone Dorr and Bella Nickels, have been selected as winners in the 2024 Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) Name a Snowplow Contest! Their clever and creative entry, "Who Let The Plows Out?!", was chosen from over 1,300 submissions across the state. This marks the second consecutive year HPS has had a winning entry in this exciting contest!
To celebrate this fantastic achievement, NDOT members Mike Jenson (the snowfighter who will drive the snowplow), Jack Krebs, Roger Klasna (head of maintenance), Ashleigh Willard, Koby Cooper, and Elizabeth Bercot visited our school on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, to make the day unforgettable for Bella, Boone, and their classmates.
The entire 4th grade got the unique opportunity to climb inside the snowplow, explore its impressive features, and even honk the horn! Additionally, all students had the chance to leave their mark by signing the snowblade with a Sharpie marker, making this snowplow truly one of a kind. Boone and Bella were also presented with a special prize package as a token of appreciation for their winning submission.
While Bella was able to take part in the special celebration, Boone Dorr was not pictured but will get the opportunity to see his plow in the days ahead. Excitingly, the name "Who Let The Plows Out?!" will now be featured on NDOT’s snowplow tracker, allowing students to spot the snowplow as it clears roads throughout the winter season.
We also extend heartfelt congratulations to Boone and Bella’s teacher, Mrs. Alexis Allan, for fostering their creativity and encouraging their participation in this fun and meaningful activity. Hershey Public Schools couldn’t be prouder of Boone, Bella, and all our students who contributed their ideas to the contest.
Thank you to NDOT for creating such a memorable experience and for celebrating the imagination and talent of our students. Congratulations, Boone and Bella—HPS is proud of you!
