On Wednesday, January 8, 2025, Hershey Public Schools had the privilege of welcoming members of American Legion Post #279 to present an engaging and educational program on the importance of the American flag. Michael Cain, Leroy Hernandez, Marvin Donnelly, Jo Ann Petska, and Monica Cooper graciously donated their time to teach our 5th and 6th-grade students about flag etiquette, the significance of respecting the flag, and fascinating historical facts about this iconic symbol of freedom.

The presentation emphasized proper flag handling, displaying, and care, as well as the deeper meaning behind its design. Students learned about the history of the flag, the meaning of the stars and stripes, and its role in representing our nation's unity and values. Through interactive demonstrations and insightful discussions, the Legion members instilled a sense of pride and responsibility in our young learners.

The students left the session with a renewed appreciation for the American flag and its importance as a symbol of liberty, democracy, and national heritage.

Hershey Public Schools extends a heartfelt thank you to Michael Cain, Leroy Hernandez, Marvin Donnelly, Jo Ann Petska, and Monica Cooper for their dedication to educating and inspiring our students. Their efforts remind us all of the importance of honoring and respecting the American flag as a vital part of our shared identity.

Thank you, American Legion Post #279, for making a meaningful impact on the future generation of Hershey!
