Hershey Public Schools is proud to celebrate Chelsey Margritz, Preschool Teacher, as the latest Staff Member of the Month, a recognition voted on by staff, students, and parents of the district.

With nine years of teaching experience, Chelsey has made an impact at multiple grade levels including kindergarten, first grade, fifth grade, and now preschool. For the past three years, she has brought her passion and energy to the youngest learners at Hershey. Before joining our Panther family, Chelsey taught at McDonald Elementary and Eisenhower Elementary.

Chelsey holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education and is a proud member of Kappa Delta Pi, an international honor society in education.

A Passion for Teaching and Connecting

Chelsey knew from a young age that she wanted to become a teacher. Inspired by educators who made a difference in her life, she now works to do the same for her students. “I want to be a positive role model and have a huge impact on kids' lives just like those teachers had on me,” she shared.

One of her favorite parts of teaching is the lasting connections she builds. “I still have kids that I taught in Kindergarten, that stop by to say hi to me nine years later,” Chelsey said. “Seeing them develop a love of learning is one of the greatest rewards of all.”

Her approach to student engagement includes incorporating visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning styles, bringing humor and energy to the classroom, and even singing songs for nearly everything they do in preschool. She is especially proud of the academic games and personalized strategies she uses to keep students excited about learning.

Building Relationships That Last

Chelsey is intentional about creating a warm, welcoming environment where students feel safe to make mistakes, take risks, and grow. She emphasizes empathy, respect, and positive reinforcement. “When forming connections, I believe it is very important for me to share about my family and the mistakes I have made. Relating to them helps them to understand things in life better.”

One standout story she shared was of a student she had the privilege of teaching three times throughout their school journey. “Watching them grow and overcome challenges has reminded me of why I do what I love.”

Supporting the Whole School Community

Chelsey’s leadership extends beyond the classroom. She supports her colleagues through idea-sharing and active listening, and she works closely with parents to build strong school-home partnerships. She also serves as a Mentor for the TeamMates program, recognizing how crucial it is to support students at all stages of development.

A Glimpse Into Life Outside the Classroom

Outside of school, Chelsey enjoys time with her husband Josh, their two children Talan and Madison, and their dogs Maverick and Charlotte. She loves shopping for new classroom ideas, spending time outdoors, and enjoying walks with family and friends.

A fun fact? Chelsey once tried out for American Idol after graduating high school!

Her favorite quote sums up her approach to teaching:

“Teachers who put relationships first don’t just have students for one year; they have students who view them as ‘their’ teacher for life.” – Justin Tarte

Grateful for the Recognition

Chelsey shared that she was surprised to win the award, saying, “I teach with so many amazing teachers!” Still, the recognition means a great deal: “I truly feel so blessed, and I am so thankful to be at a school where parents and staff support me and help me grow.”

Her final message to the school community is a simple yet powerful reminder:

“Let’s all continue to be supportive to one another this next month we have left of school! Building each other up and maintaining a positive attitude and morale is key to a successful learning environment!”

Congratulations to Chelsey Margritz, a true role model and champion for our students and staff!
