After six dedicated years of safely transporting students to and from Hershey Public Schools, Amy Newton, our treasured Daily Route Driver, will officially retire at the end of the 2024–2025 school year. Since beginning her journey with Hershey in 2018, Amy has driven the same route every single day—faithfully greeting her students with warmth, laughter, and of course, a little music.
🚍 A Calling Born From Love
Amy’s inspiration to become a school bus driver traces back to 1995, when her son was undergoing chemotherapy. With daycare options limited, Amy began driving a school bus so she could be with her children—bringing them along on the route, buckled in and safe. What started as a necessity became a calling that continued through the years and ultimately brought her to Hershey.
🎶 Moments That Made It Special
When asked about her favorite memories, Amy fondly recalls mornings filled with singing—students joyfully serenading the bus ride to school. “I love to hear them sing and be happy,” she says with a smile. Of course, no bus career would be complete without some humor.
💛 The Heart of Hershey
The most rewarding part of Amy’s time at Hershey has been the relationships she’s built with students and families. “I love all of the kids and their families as if they were mine,” she shares.
🌱 What Comes Next
Amy’s next adventure is both inspiring and exciting—she’s currently building out a school bus into a full-time home and plans to travel the country living her dream. From wheels on the bus to wheels on the road, Amy is truly embracing her next chapter with courage and joy.
When asked what she’ll miss the most, her answer is simple and heartfelt: “Seeing the kids every day, listening to them sing, and watching them grow up and graduate.”
💬 Amy’s Message to the Panther Community:
“Live every day as if it was your last! Always smile and be happy. Don’t let anyone steal your sparkle.”
