As was shared earlier this fall, Hershey Public Schools was participating in a program through the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) that provided free meals, breakfast and lunch, for all students at school. Initially, the sunset date of the program was to be December 31, 2020.
Fortunately, we have been informed that the program has been extended and will run through the end of the 2020-2021 school year. As a result, any student attending Hershey Public Schools that participates in the meal program will not be charged for the meal through the end of the school year. Below are a few important points regarding the program:
- Every student is eligible for the free meal without application.
- If a student selects an extra entrée or à la carte item, those are not covered under the USDA program and will be charged to the student meal account.
- If your student(s) is carrying a negative balance in the meal account, this would be an opportune time to pay off that amount and bring the account to zero.
