The Hershey Board of Education passed a resolution at their November 8th regular board meeting to call for a bond to address facility needs. Addressing the 1959 portion of the building to increase the size of instructional classrooms from approximately 570 square feet to approximately 800 to 1000 square feet is the highest priority. Classroom space for Vocational Agriculture and FFA, special education and Title I will be included as well. Other 1959 renovations include renovating the kitchen and lunchroom into classrooms, the nurse’s office and a larger K-12 Art classroom. A new kitchen, servery and dining area will be in a new addition. The 1959 gym will be renovated into a K-12 media center, classrooms and office space for counselors and school Psychologist. All existing student restrooms will be renovated to be ADA compliant. Student locker rooms will be renovated and constructed to be Title IX compliant. A safe secure entrance and central administrative office will be constructed at the current bus doors. Multipurpose space will be constructed for physical education classes, fine arts and practice space. Increased instructional space for Health Science classroom and weight room will be included in the addition. This project consists of approximately 55,000 square feet of renovation and 30,000 square feet of new construction. Site improvements to include HVAC, electrical and plumbing will be included. The project is the same project that was proposed in August. The vote will be in February and the Lincoln County Clerk will determine the type of election that will be held.
